Instructions on uploading
a Web page @ PSU
Graphics provide students who learn better visually the opportunity to get the information in a format better suited to them. When simple words do not effectively give these students the information they need, graphics may be a more useful alternative. The link to the left includes graphical instructions on how to upload web pages that I created for students in Geography 321: Cartography.

Electronic presentations engage students through the use of graphics and links to online interactive media presentations. This kind of detail cannot otherwise be achieved through simple overhead slides or an oral presentation. This presentation about my geography thesis topic was given to classmates in my Information Sciences & Technology (IST) course. It effectively portrayed information about a technical topic, likely unfamiliar to the audience, while also capturing their attention.

Audio files provide yet another mechanism for reaching students in a format different from the ordinary. This music sample, a song from the Gypsy Kings called Bamboleo, is another way in to engage students. When teaching about other cultures, such as in a cultural geography class, music samples provide an opportunity for students to cross a cultural boundary without having to leave their seat. This sample of Roma (i.e. Gypsy) flamenco music is a doorway into another culture.
